MCA Installation: Between the Museum and the City

Location: Chicago, IL, USA
Year: 2003

This temporary installation for the MCA plaza was conceived as a framework allowing for more diverse public activities at the footsteps of the institution. Contrasting with the hard lined plaza-scape, distributed soft islands are conceived as highly tactile zones that attract a broad public. The highly detailed structure and surface of the islands evoke a level of craft similar to the qualities found in traditional basket weaving - yet executed with industrial products like steel rods, gas pipe, cellular foam, twist-ties, wire-coated cable and bungee cord.
