The Rockaway Wave produces resilient infrastructures, ecologies, and neighborhoods. Developed first for the Rockaway peninsula, it can be adapted to many coastline environments. An open system, integrating hard and soft approaches to development, it achieves resilience through its capacity to adapt and amplify existing ecological, economic, and cultural networks. This linked array of networks produces new forms of social and economic life that reflect the Rockaway’s mix of city and beach, including enterprises such as a World Coastline Center (a global business center, research institute, and high school) which exploit the site’s proximity to both Manhattan and JFK airport.
